In the parking lot.
Jasper kept mocking Zane as they walked.
"Boss, can you at least try to smile?"
"Shut up," Zane snapped irritably.
Jasper sighed theatrically. "Wealthy men are always so tragic in love. Romance destroys the fools who chase it."
"Boss, cutting your losses is a smart business move. Good thing you haven't wired her the funds yet."
"Get out."
"I swear you're possessed. It's like you'll actually die if you don't obsess over Mrs. Sterling!"

Elara now defaulted to hosting clients or dining at Zane's restaurant. Compared to everything Zane had done for her, it was a trivial gesture, but it was her way of showing support.
As soon as Elara stepped out of her car, she saw Jasper trailing right behind Zane... singing?
"Just understand my heart..."
"Desperate for a love that's true..."
"My heart was shattered by love before..."
"Why do the sweetest dreams wake up so fast..."
"Are you ever going to stop?" Zane turned around furiously, only to lock eyes with Elara standing just a few feet away.
Jasper immediately snapped his mouth shut.
The dark clouds instantly vanished from Zane's face, replaced by brilliant sunshine. "Ms. Vance."
Jasper offered an awkward, strained smile. "Hello, Ms. Vance."
Elara found the dynamic between this former brother-in-law duo hilarious. She pressed her lips together to hide a smile. "Nice singing."
Jasper had chosen those lyrics specifically to mock Zane's heartbreak. He forced out a dry laugh. "Right? But my boss doesn't appreciate it. He has zero taste in music."
Zane ignored Jasper completely. Fighting the urge to grin like an idiot, he looked at Elara with absolute seriousness and asked, "Didn't you say you were busy at lunch? Meeting a client here?"
