Hearing her resolute tone, Julian frowned. "Are you out of your mind?"
"I'd gladly be a widow," Elara fired back mercilessly.

Seeing Zane pacing the hallway, Jasper rushed over and blocked his path. "Where do you think you're going?"
"You're policing my bathroom breaks now?" Zane muttered, keeping his voice low.
Jasper scoffed. "Go ahead. Take a good look in the mirror while you're at it and see how pathetic you look."
Zane paused, casting a suspicious glance at his assistant.
Jasper went straight for the jugular. "Julian and his wife are having a private chat in the lounge right across from the restrooms. Want to go stage a little 'accidental' run-in?"
Zane stopped dead in his tracks. "You saw them?"
"Across from the restrooms. Room on the right. Knock yourself out."
Zane didn't move. Instead, he turned around and walked straight back into the dining room.
The other guests looked confused by his swift return.
"Forgot my cigarettes," Zane lied smoothly.
He didn't step out of the room again until the dinner was completely over.
He refused to let Julian see him and Elara at the same social event.

Since Zane hadn't gotten a chance to speak to Elara all night, Jasper hummed a mocking tune the moment they got into the car:
"Pour me a whiskey..."
"I'll drink it down..."
"Thinking of the past..."
"I'll have another round..."
"Knowing love is just a game..."
"Who cares who she's with now..."
"I'm not drunk at all..."
"Just dealing with a broken heart..."
