It was Julian Sterling.

Arthur Vance instructed his driver, "Drive straight through. Do not stop."

Elara glanced at her father. "Since you have no desire to turn back," Arthur said, "I have no reason to extend any courtesies to him."

"Thank you, Dad." Elara was deeply grateful for his unwavering support.

Arthur continued, "Your mother is traditional, so you don't need to take her words to heart. You make your own decisions about your life. Don't worry about our opinions."

He let out a heavy sigh. "I failed your sister. Both of my daughters have had their lives ruined for the sake of this company. If the company is destined to fall, then let it fall."

He took Elara's hand and patted it gently. "You don't need to consider anyone else when it comes to your future. And tell Vivian to come back to the Vance Group. She shouldn't have to suffer out there anymore."

The car pulled up to the main house of The Vance Estate.

Elara didn't go back outside; she went straight upstairs.

Sitting in his car, Julian waited in vain. When Elara didn't emerge, he called her.

"Good evening, Mr. Sterling."

Julian choked slightly on her icy, overly professional tone. "Come down. I need to talk to you."

"If you have something to say, please contact my lawyer," Elara replied smoothly.

Julian's temper flared. "Can't you speak to me normally? Do you have to be so damn hostile?"

"I haven't insulted you, which means I'm being incredibly polite. Would you like me to jog your memory about the vile things you've said to me?"

Julian swallowed his anger. "My family has banned me from interfering further with Caleb Mercer. The situation is over."

Elara let out a dry scoff. "Mr. Sterling, there is nothing for us to discuss regarding that. The only thing we have to talk about is our divorce. Stop trying to paint yourself as a romantic hero, and don't expect any gratitude from me. You only fought him to save your own pride."

"The only thing I'm thankful for is pure, unadulterated karma. Not some fake saint."

Julian was completely silenced. "How did you become like this? You never used to be this vicious."

"I've always been like this. I'm just done pretending. If you don't return my dowry, I'll be far more vicious than this."

"And if I refuse to divorce?"
