Elara raised her glass and downed the amber liquid before Zane could even reach out to stop her. Setting the empty glass on the table, she smiled softly. "I think that's enough drinking for tonight, Zane."

Zane's chest tightened. He thought she was about to leave. "Elara—"

"Am I staying in the same room as last time?" she asked smoothly.

Zane blinked, momentarily stunned. "Yes... the guest rooms are cleaned daily."

Elara stood up. "Could I borrow a T-shirt?"

"Of course."

She walked barefoot toward the guest bedroom.

A surge of quiet euphoria rushed through Zane. He practically sprinted to his walk-in closet.

There were stacks of brand-new, unworn shirts in the drawers, but after a second of hesitation, he pulled out one of his own freshly laundered, worn-in T-shirts.

Grabbing the only pair of spare slippers in the house, he walked over and knocked softly on her door.

He knelt down and placed the slippers right at her feet.

"Thank you, Zane." Elara slipped her bare feet into them.

Zane caught a glimpse of her pale, elegant arches swallowed up by the oversized men's slides. His Adam's apple bobbed involuntarily.

He rapidly averted his gaze, but the stark contrast of her delicate skin against his dark slippers made his chest tight with desire.

"Let me know if you need anything else," he managed to say.

"I will."

The master suite and the guest room were right next to each other. Zane leaned against his doorframe for a few minutes, waiting to see if she would call for him. When she didn't, he finally went into his own bathroom to shower.

He had no intention of wasting this rare opportunity to be near her. He planned to invite her out to the open-air balcony to enjoy the breeze, just to steal a little more time together.

When Elara finally knocked on his door, Zane was just drying his hair with a towel.

She was standing in the doorway, barefoot. Her long hair cascaded down her back in loose waves, completely free of makeup. His white T-shirt swallowed her petite frame.

Zane stared at her, utterly mesmerized.

Seeing her swimming in his shirt brought back a sudden, vivid memory of how she looked back in college.

"Zane, I came to return your slippers," Elara said, bending down to place them on the floor near his feet.

The hem of the shirt barely covered her upper thighs. The moment she bent over, she was undoubtedly exposed from behind. Zane swallowed hard, forcing his eyes away from the breathtaking expanse of her bare legs.

"You can keep wearing them," he said thickly.

"They're too big. I'm afraid I'll trip," she replied, carelessly tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

Zane had no choice but to step into them himself.
