Dawn broke.
Eleanor's heart tightened again as she watched her daughter eat breakfast in silence with her head bowed.
She looked even more miserable than when she had first started fighting for a divorce with Julian.
At noon, Elara received a call from Zane.
"Ms. Vance, do you have time to grab lunch together? I want to talk to you about the stalled project on the outer ring," Zane asked.
Since she had refused to come down to see him last night, Zane was certain she was angry.
Even though Zane could be a bit dense sometimes, he had his moments of clarity. Elara was probably mad that he had dinner with Nadia, and he should have explained things clearly that very night.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Whitaker, but I have an appointment for lunch. Would tonight work?" Elara asked.
A wave of joy hit Zane, and he immediately agreed.
"Which restaurant do you prefer? I'll make the arrangements in advance."
"Let's just go to the one from the day before yesterday. It's closer to me," Elara said.
Zane was thrilled. "I'll pick you up from the office after work."
"No need. It's easier if I drive."
"Alright, see you tonight."
Zane hung up the phone. As long as he was still useful, he had a chance to coax her back.
Jasper walked in to find Zane looking like a sunny day again. He thought to himself that Mrs. Sterling really was the god of weather.
What a cheap man!
After work, Zane went straight to the restaurant.
He called the waiter over to take his order.
"For appetizers, I'll have the three-color cold platter and the mustard raw shrimp."
"Steam a coral grouper and make some crab roe shrimp balls."
"Braised goose web with fish maw, and black truffle wagyu beef cubes."
After ordering, Zane felt it was a bit too heavy, so he added, "Sauté some bamboo shoots with shrimp roe."
