The waiter watched his dejected boss.
Great.
Another table full of food wasted.
Zane drank a lot that night, and the floor manager had to take him home.
Jasper, as his executive assistant, was also called over by the manager.
Jasper arrived, and only then did the manager leave.
When Jasper opened the shoe cabinet, he found six or seven pairs of women's slippers, all luxury brands, but not a single pair of men's slippers. He cursed under his breath.
Zane wasn't completely blacked out. He had kicked off his shoes randomly and collapsed onto the bed, silent.
Annoyed, Jasper went to the bathroom to grab a towel to wipe him down, only to discover a bunch of women's cosmetics on the vanity.
He stared in shock at the bottles and jars. There was no way Zane used this stuff.
So...
He really succeeded and moved in with Mrs. Sterling?
Seeing his miserable expression, Jasper asked, "Boss, you look like you just got dumped."
Zane ignored him.
"Did Mrs. Sterling dump you?"
"Was it because you couldn't perform?"
Zane turned his head away, refusing to engage.
"Did you confess your feelings to Mrs. Sterling?"
"Did she reject you?"
When he didn't argue back, Jasper said,
"Boss, don't be sad. If I were her, I would have rejected you too."
"Why?!" Zane snapped angrily.
"You shouldn't have confessed," Jasper said. "She's still Mrs. Sterling right now. What did you expect her to say? 'I do'?"
"If she agreed, you two would be labeled adulterers having an illicit affair. You'd be pointed at and cursed by everyone. Back in the day, you'd be drowned in a pig basket."
"If she has any morals at all, she couldn't agree to it."
"Stop with your stupid analysis! We were already together before this!"
Jasper went quiet because this was beyond his scope of understanding.
