"I apologize. My ex-wife doesn't have the best temper. Please forgive the interruption," Zane said as they entered the private dining room.

Nadia stared at him coldly. "You're completely redundant. It would save everyone a lot of trouble if you just remarried her."

"It would be easier," Zane agreed calmly. "But a man can't always follow his heart. I have to consider my family's wishes."

Nadia scoffed. "Your mess has nothing to do with me. Leave me out of it."

"My ex-wife isn't a bad person, just a little hot-headed. I'd appreciate it if you could bear with her," Zane said.

Nadia slammed her silverware down on the table. "Why the hell should I bear with her?"

Zane explained patiently, "Because of her temper."

Nadia glared at him. "She has a temper, so I have to put up with it? What kind of twisted logic is that, Zane?"

"It's not logic. It's a request."

"Think before you speak!" Nadia grabbed her purse, refusing to tolerate him. "I haven't agreed to marry you, Zane Whitaker. Save your bullshit for someone else."

She stormed out of the room. Zane stood up and followed her to the parking lot strictly for appearances, then returned to the private room to finish his meal.

"Sir, we haven't started on the signature bisque yet. Should the chef prepare it?" the waiter asked.

"No need," Zane replied, taking another bite of his food before pausing. "Wait, what bisque?"

"Ms. Neville's favorite soup, sir."

Zane, still irritated from being yelled at, replied coldly, "Serve it next time."

The waiter cursed him internally for being so stingy. Back in the day, the Yale heiress was served nothing but the best, no questions asked.

Zane returned to live at the Whitaker Manor. Elena frequently asked about his relationship with Nadia, and Zane always gave a noncommittal response, claiming things were fine.

"Has that ex-wife of yours caused any trouble?" Elena asked.

"I ran into her once. She threw a fit," Zane answered honestly.

Elena offered a stern reminder. "If there's no chance of reconciliation, you need to make it crystal clear to her. Let her know that dragging this out is just wasting her time."

"I've already told her."
