Zane grabbed her hand gently, his voice dropping to a murmur. "I don't care about the pain. Let me kiss you, and then you can hit me. Deal?"
Elara yanked her hand back in frustration. "Say what you came to say and get out."
Zane leaned in closer. "I want to whisper it."
"No. Stand there and speak normally."
"It's genuinely important."
Elara was entirely out of patience. "Are you done? If you're done, leave."
Zane wrapped his arms around her waist, pleading softly. "Just one sentence. Then I'll go."
Elara gritted her teeth, fighting the urge to explode. "Spit it out!"
Having finally gotten his way, Zane leaned down and whispered against her ear, "I missed you."
She knew it!
Elara immediately pinched his arm as hard as she could. "Get the hell out!"
Zane caught her hand, laughing as he backpedaled. "I'm kidding, I'm kidding! I actually have real news."
"I don't want to hear it!"
"I promise you want to hear this!"
"Zane Whitaker, I am warning you right now. You get one last chance."
"Okay, okay."
Zane stepped forward again, looking her dead in the eye, and enunciated every word. "My father agreed to the capital injection."
Elara froze, convinced she had misheard him. "What did you just say?"
Zane boldly pulled her flush against his chest. "My father officially agreed to bail out Vance Properties. The board held a meeting this afternoon, and it passed. Once I prep the groundwork on my end, our teams can start coordinating."
Zane fully expected Elara to be shocked, thrilled, and then immediately reward him with a passionate kiss.
Instead, Elara placed her hands on his chest and pushed him back, her expression deadly serious. "How exactly did the Chairman agree to this?"
"Because my proposal was brilliant, and I presented it myself," Zane smirked easily. "I told you, my will is absolute."
