"Do you have the funds?"

Elara replied, "I'm not entirely sure, which is why I need the meeting."

Zane hugged her, turning on the charm. "Make it quick. If you're short on cash, I'll handle it for you."

"There's no need. Just head home first."

"I'm not leaving. I'll wait for you to finish."

"I don't know how late this meeting will run," Elara insisted. "Just go home and wait for me, okay?"

"No." Zane acted shamelessly. "Without you there, the house is scary."

"What does a grown man like you have to be afraid of?"

"I'm afraid of ghosts."

Elara was speechless.

Zane pleaded, "I'll just wait for you here in the office, alright?"

"Fine, wait here. Don't cause trouble."

Elara left for her meeting, leaving Zane incredibly bored in her office.

He opened the files on her desk and leafed through them, wondering if she would be deeply moved if he finished all her work before she got back.

When a department manager knocked and entered, only to see Zane sitting there, he froze, thinking he had walked into the wrong office.

Zane asked matter-of-factly, "What do you need?"

The manager named a project approval document.

Zane searched the tray on the desk, pulled it out, and handed it over.

The manager glanced at it, confirmed it was what he needed, thanked him, and backed out of the room. He couldn't help but think: Whitaker Group hasn't even finalized the funding yet, and he's already taken over?

Zane's stomach was grumbling loudly by the time Elara finally returned.

Zane stood up immediately. "Was it really that difficult? Why didn't you just tell me? How much do you need? I'll transfer it right now."

"It's fine, it's been sorted out," Elara said.

"How?"

"Robbed Peter to pay Paul, but it covers the gap."

Zane asked, "What's the password to your computer? I tried to check the stock market, but I couldn't even log in."

Elara didn't want to show him. Because of Julian, she was deeply averse to relying on others for everything.
