Jocelyn frowned in confusion, staring at him. "And then what?"

Julian lowered his voice in shame. "The contract was ironclad, drafted by top lawyers specifically to trap me. She took me to court recently, and I had to beg, borrow, and steal to pay her off."

"And now you're terrified she's going to claim that money again during the divorce proceedings, right?" Jocelyn guessed accurately.

Julian nodded grimly. "Exactly. That's why I can't let my family find out I signed such an idiotic agreement."

Jocelyn sighed heavily. This man was pathologically obsessed with what people thought of him, especially his parents. To him, playing the role of the flawless golden boy superseded everything else.

"Where did you even get that kind of money?" Jocelyn asked. "Did you borrow it, or was it your own savings?"

"Some of it was from private investments I've been managing for years, and I borrowed the rest just to make the payment," Julian explained. "That's why I don't have a single dime to give to Vanessa."

"You are completely useless," Jocelyn scoffed. "Money solves ninety-nine percent of the problems in this world. If you still had that cash, Vanessa wouldn't even be a threat."

"She only wants two things: your last name or a massive payout. But if you're hoping to get out of this without spending a cent, you're delusional. You slept with her, you got her pregnant. You have to bleed a little cash."

"And then there's Elara. She's flipped the script and holds all the cards. As long as you refuse to sign the divorce papers, she just has to wait another year or so before she legally demands that money. Your parents are going to find out eventually."

"So I strongly suggest you come clean to your family. So what if they yell at you? Is your ego really that fragile?"

Julian fell silent, his face etched with deep anxiety.

"What's Elara saying about all this?" Jocelyn pushed.

"She hasn't contacted me once since I transferred the funds," Julian admitted.

"Just because she's silent doesn't mean she's letting you off the hook or giving up the rest of the money. Who would walk away from a fortune like that? Rather than letting this blow up in a courtroom where you can't control the fallout, detonate it now. Have both families sit down, negotiate a deal where she waives the debt, and just finalize the damn divorce."

Julian nodded slowly. He knew Jocelyn's advice was the only logical way out.

He simply couldn't handle this alone. He had zero funds for Vanessa, and he had no idea how to combat the looming threat of the dowry settlement. Defeated, he decided to confess everything to his parents.

When Sienna heard her son's confession, her face turned as cold and hard as a glacier. It took every ounce of her willpower to hold back from calling him an absolute idiot.
