Jocelyn Yale sat down, her face cold, and demanded directly, "Where were you a few days ago?"
"On a business trip," Zane replied.
"Who did you take with you?" she pressed.
"I didn't take anyone," he said.
Seeing his refusal to confess, anger flared in Jocelyn's eyes. "Who was that woman you carried into the hospital? That young girl with Gideon Grant?"
Zane’s heart tightened, but his face remained completely impassive. "How did you know about that?"
"A former classmate of mine who works at the hospital saw you. In the middle of the night, carrying a woman in your arms—what exactly were you doing?" Jocelyn interrogated.
Zane was exhausted by her constant questioning. "Does your classmate know we're divorced?"
"Yes, otherwise he would have caught you in the act for me. Instead, he just told me my ex-husband had found his second spring," Jocelyn snapped.
Zane didn't argue. He spoke with quiet gravity: "Jocelyn, we were married for one year and have been divorced for four. I think that thoroughly proves we are not compatible."
"How are we not compatible?" Jocelyn glared at him. "How do you know it won't work if you don't even try?"
Zane looked at her and said bluntly, "I fell in love with someone else."
"I really care about..." Zane paused. His feelings for her were something he couldn't openly declare, yet he desperately wanted to say it out loud.
"I really care about Ms. Vance."
His expression was dead serious. Jocelyn instantly exploded. "She is Gideon Grant's woman! Why do you insist on obsessing over other men's women?!"
"Yes, I happen to like another man's woman."
"I care for her deeply, and it has to be her."
"Jocelyn, stop interfering in my life."
"I have no intention of turning back."
"Shut up! I don't want to hear this garbage!" Jocelyn suddenly stood up. "I never said it was over, and nobody gets to call it quits unless I say so!"
"Just try marrying her. I dare you!"
Jocelyn slammed the door as she left.
