Cynthia had never been spoken to like that by a man in her entire life. Her face instantly flushed crimson.
She shrieked, "Who do you think you are?! How dare you speak to me like that?"
"Who I am is none of your damn business! Drop a name right now, let's hear it. Where did a blind, arrogant idiot like you crawl out of?"
Cynthia screamed, "I am the Grant heiress! And I order you to apologize to me this instant!"
Jasper let out a bark of cynical laughter. "Apologize? Yeah, right! Back the hell off! Damn, it's always the ugly ones causing the most trouble!"
Fire with fire. Jasper didn't yield an inch, throwing insults right back at her until Cynthia was literally stomping her feet in rage.
Being called ugly and classless hit a terrifying nerve.
It struck Cynthia right where it hurt most. She completely lost her mind and lunged forward, trying to slap him.
Jasper had only dialed back his temper since becoming Zane's assistant. Before that, he was a notorious former playboy who thrived on causing chaos. He never made the good news; he was always out starting fights or wrecking something.
It was only after following his former brother-in-law that he got his life somewhat on track.
That was why, even after Zane divorced Jocelyn, no one in the Yale family ever spoke a bad word about Zane. Jasper's parents were eternally grateful that Zane had straightened their son out, constantly reminding Jasper to work hard and not drag Zane down.
So, the second Cynthia raised her hand, Jasper grabbed a handful of her hair. He had zero gentlemanly grace, and chivalry wasn't even in his vocabulary.
Cynthia shrieked in pain. Jasper gave her hair one hard yank before letting go.
Tears springing to her eyes, she stumbled backward to a safe distance.
"You just wait!" Cynthia hissed, looking feral enough to bite someone.
Jasper sneered dismissively. "No, *you* wait. I've only been playing the good guy for a minute. If you curse at me again, I'll slap some manners right into you!"
In Jasper's worldview, manners were optional for him, but absolutely mandatory for anyone talking to him. Otherwise, he was more than happy to show them what a real menace looked like.
