"Zane?"
Seeing him leaning against the rock face completely zoned out, Elara called his name again. "Zane?"
Zane snapped back to reality, his eyes slightly glazed as he looked down at her.
She was standing tucked into the deepest corner of the crevice, while he stood near the opening, angled away from her. They weren't even touching.
He...
What the hell was he just daydreaming about?
Had he really just stood there hallucinating her touching him?
Seeing his focus return, Elara gestured outside. "The rain seems to have stopped."
Zane's brain was still heavily fogged by the phantom pleasure of his fantasy. He gave a vague, distracted hum.
Elara had no idea what was running through his mind. She assumed he was just stressing over a complicated corporate crisis.
When he didn't move to step out, Elara was forced to squeeze past him.
The rock wall was jagged and freezing, and her soaking wet clothes clung uncomfortably to her skin.
As she turned sideways and brushed past his body, she felt something... alarming.
Wait.
How did he get so hard just from standing there?
She wasn't a naive teenager. Her first instinct was to whip around in shock, but she forcefully suppressed the urge.
The last thing she wanted was to stare directly at the glaring evidence in his trousers. The awkwardness would be fatal.
Elara practically bolted out of the crevice. Entirely unaware of the explicit, feverish fantasy Zane had just experienced, she naturally assumed her brushing past him had provoked his reaction.
She cringed internally. Just days ago, she had self-righteously chewed him out for his inappropriate proposition, and now she had practically rubbed herself against him until he pitched a tent. What was he going to think of her?
Would he think she did it on purpose?
Zane glanced down at himself and cursed silently. Pathetic.
He didn't dare walk too close to her, and she didn't dare look back. Maintaining a stiff, awkward distance, they hiked down the mountain pretending absolutely nothing had happened.
Back in her room, Elara immediately stepped into the hot shower.
It was only then that she noticed her own body's undeniable reaction.
