"Mom, I'm fine. Please don't worry about me," she replies with a sweet, obedient smile, lifting the hem of her skirt as she walks into the dining room.

Deanna brings over the bowl of broth, her expression darkening with anger. "I don't know what kind of dirty tricks Tara used to make your grandmother favor her so blindly."

Jade takes the bowl, taking a small, delicate sip as a calculating gleam flashes through her eyes. "Mom, let's just let the past be the past. I'll make sure to stay out of my sister's way from now on. I know she doesn't like me." She forces her voice to sound utterly heartbroken.

Hearing this, Deanna's heart shatters. She pulls Jade into a tight embrace. "You silly girl, you're just too kind for your own good. She targets you at every turn, and here you are, still making excuses for her."

Resting her head on Deanna's shoulder, Jade allows a subtle, icy smirk to curve her lips. She knows exactly how to manipulate her mother's emotions.

"You've been cooped up in that wing for so long, you must be bored to tears. Once you finish your broth, you should call your friends and go shopping," Deanna suggests.
