The situation is clearly critical. "Step aside. Let me take a look," Tara demands. She strides up to the bed, ruthlessly shoving Jade out of the way to examine Eleanor's pulse herself.
The aggressive shove sends Jade into a quiet rage. Her delicate features twist into a vicious sneer. "Tara, please. You don't possess an ounce of basic medical knowledge, so can we drop the theatrical act? Do you honestly think checking a pulse is going to magically reveal what's wrong?"
Emboldened, Jade's voice turns impossibly shrill. "Even our professional physician can't pinpoint the cause! What are you trying to prove by playing doctor in front of everyone? We all know you've never liked Grandma, but you have no right to use her life-threatening condition to put on a show!"
Her words act like a lit match in a powder keg. Her brain-dead brothers immediately jump to her defense, barking at Tara like trained attack dogs.
"She's right, Tara! Stop pretending you know what you're doing. Grandma's life is hanging by a thread!" Jake snaps.
"If Dr. Halloway can't figure it out, what makes you think you can?" Alec sneers. "Just because you hired a specialist to cure Aunt Kellen doesn't mean you're some kind of medical genius!"
Following the brothers' tirade, Charles and Deanna eagerly join the firing squad.
"Get out of the way, Tara! Stop interfering with the doctor's work!" Charles roars.
"Can you just stop acting out for attention?" Deanna groans in disgust. "Why can't you be more like Jade and actually show some care instead of causing trouble?"
