The Scorned Heiress: No More Mercy novel Chapter 147

Tara shoots him a look of pure contempt. She would have to be braindead to believe a word out of his mouth. Premium resources? More like premium opportunities to be Jade's stepping stone.

"Terminate the contract, or I release the video. Pick one," Tara snaps, her patience entirely depleted. She leaves no room for negotiation.

Beads of sweat form on Alec's forehead. A violent internal struggle wages in his mind, but eventually, he crumbles. "Fine. I'll terminate it. But you swear this video never gets out."

A mocking smile touches Tara's lips. In the end, her biological brother still chooses to protect the adopted sister who tried to murder her.

"Don't worry. As long as you play by the rules, the footage stays in the vault. Now hurry up and get the paperwork ready. I don't have all day."

Alec nods weakly, realizing he has absolutely no leverage left. He glares at her, his eyes swimming with resentment and bitter defeat.

To his credit, he moves fast. The legal team drafts the termination papers within the hour. Tara reviews every single clause meticulously, ensuring there are no hidden traps. Once satisfied, she signs her name with a flourish.

Watching her sign, Alec feels a suffocating knot in his chest. Doesn't she feel even a sliver of hesitation? She looks genuinely thrilled to be cutting ties with her own family. The ink on the page feels like the final nail in the coffin of their relationship.

Jade's bright eyes instantly darken, her smile freezing in place. "What? How could she possibly afford the fifty-million-dollar penalty?"

"She didn't pay it," Alec admits heavily.

Jade gasps, her mind racing. She assumes Alec let Tara walk away out of sibling guilt. He loves his blood sister so much that he let her out of the contract for free!
