Mentioning the poison makes Jovani visibly tense. Ever since they were almost exposed last time, she feels like someone is secretly digging into her. She suspects Tara might be the one looking into her, but it also seems unlikely. If Tara was really that capable, she wouldn't have been drugged and kidnapped by her people so easily back then. And if it hadn't been that easy, her precious girl Jade would never have seamlessly infiltrated the Dennis family.
But if someone really is following the breadcrumbs to the Alchemist Foundation... If they find out that she is the reason they are exposed, she will die a terrible death. Therefore, Jovani has to be careful.
Hearing this, Jade immediately grows anxious. She stomps her foot. "Why are you such a coward! It's been so long. They can't possibly trace it back to you that easily! Don't you hate that old hag just as much? Once she is dead, no one will dare stop you from officially marrying father. Give me more of the medicine. I promise it will be flawless this time."
It is a slow-acting poison, not something that kills instantly. She doesn't understand why her mother is so terrified. That old hag is perfectly fine, except she loves meddling in other people's business, stubbornly preventing her dad from seeing other women and constantly preaching about matching social statuses. Unfortunately, her dad habitually listens to her, which is why her mother is still kept in the shadows to this day.
She is meant to be a true heiress, yet she has to play the role of an adopted daughter. It is incredibly frustrating! Her mom and dad were each other's first loves; Deanna was the one who stole him later.
Jovani wavers. After all, she also dreams of becoming the matriarch of the Dennis family.
"Fine, I still have a little bit of the drug left. Use it for now. When the heat dies down, I will find a way to get more." Jovani finally compromises. As she hands the drug to her daughter, she can't help but warn her. "Remember to be careful. Don't get caught."
"Don't worry, my brothers treat me extremely well. They are super easy to manipulate. I'd like to see which woman has the guts to get near them!" Thinking of this, a twisted possessiveness flashes through Jade's mind. She feels her three brothers should only orbit around her and treat only her well for the rest of their lives. Taking a wife or getting a girlfriend is absolutely impossible. Even treating their biological sister Tara a little better is completely out of the question.
"Good. I am relieved that you know what to do." Jovani nods in deep satisfaction.
"But... it seems like Evan is having a change of heart. I feel like he is starting to care about Tara!"
