"How am I supposed to know why her face broke out? I should be asking you! What kind of garbage skincare did you give me? You almost ruined my life!"
Facing Jovani's slightly reprimanding look, Jade's existing fury morphs into desperate grievance. Her attempt to suck up to Evan's mother has spectacularly backfired, only making the woman despise her more.
"Look, the damage is done. We can only do damage control now," Jovani says smoothly, waving off the outburst. "What happened, happened. There's no use getting worked up over it."
Something unexpected must have occurred, something entirely out of their hands. Jovani doesn't want to dwell on it; arguing will only strain their mother-daughter bond without fixing a damn thing.
She knows someone is digging into her background, and she is ninety percent sure it's that little bitch, Tara. But Jovani figures Tara is just trying to trace the skincare products to keep stepping on Jade. She doesn't believe for a second that Tara has the resources to dig any deeper. If she really had that kind of power, she wouldn't have been so easily kidnapped by Jovani's schemes back in the day. To Jovani, Tara is just a sheltered heiress raised behind the Dennis family's gilded gates, completely incapable of executing anything major.
As long as she stays cautious, scrubs her tracks with the group, and keeps her head down, there won't be any problems.
A smug, self-satisfied smile touches Jovani's lips. After years of manipulating the Dennis family from the shadows, she knows her cunning far outstrips anything Tara could ever muster.
What Jovani doesn't know is that Tara is no longer the girl she used to be. Nor can she imagine the powerful allies and brilliant friends Tara has made during the years she was missing—people bound by blood, sweat, and absolute loyalty.
"I mean the Dennis and Jewell families are tied together by massive financial stakes. Lana doesn't have the guts to actually burn bridges with your family. She might hate you right now, but as long as you remain the beloved princess of the Dennis family, she won't dare lay a finger on you."
Jovani steps closer, her tone dripping with calculation. "Right now, Lana is only cozying up to Tara because of that thirty percent share. Once those shares are gone, she'll come crawling back to you. You don't need to suck up to her. You just need to find a way to make Tara fall out with the Dennis family and force her to cough up those shares."
As for Lana, she will forget the pain the second her face heals. She is a wealthy socialite; once she calms down, she will realize Jade had no real motive to sabotage her. It was just a freak accident.
"You're right," Jade murmurs, a greedy light returning to her eyes. "I just need to go back, focus on my acting, and plan for the birthday banquet. By then, I'll have Evan tied to me for good."
