"Tara, are we really just letting them off the hook? I was about to rip them a new one!" Bianca complains, her frustration evident. She hates seeing her best friend walk away from a fight she clearly won.
"Relax. There is zero chance our little drama queen lets this go," Tara says, completely unfazed. "It's her birthday, so she's bound to come over and flaunt her fragile ego soon enough. But now that she has a new thorn in her side, she'll definitely try to eliminate Lucinda before she comes looking for me. There's no rush."
Just as they settle in, another unwelcome guest approaches.
"Tara, I've finally found you," Lana says, wearing a painfully fake smile that doesn't reach her eyes. She puts on a grand show of gratitude. "I really have to thank you. If it weren't for you, my face would still be a mrss. I haven't even had the chance to properly show my appreciation."
"Save your thanks," Tara replies, waving her off with brutal honesty. "In this world, money talks. If it weren't for the millions of dollars you paid me, you'd still be rotting away waiting to die."
It is the absolute truth. If Lana's condition hadn’t involved a toxic biological agent from the Alchemist Foundation, a rotting, excruciatingly painful death would have been a certainty without Tara's intervention.
Lana's smile freezes. She really doesn't pull any punches.
"Tara, how can you speak to my mother like that? She's your future mother-in-law!" Evan snaps, stepping forward defensively. He prides himself on being a good son and absolutely refuses to let his future wife disrespect his mother. Even though he desperately wants to reconcile with Tara, his bruised ego takes over.
