After leaving the guest suite, Lana quickly heads toward the lounge where she last saw Deanna. She doesn't approach her immediately. Instead, she stops at the wine bar, pours herself a glass of Cabernet, and sips it slowly, counting down the minutes in her head.
She figures it will take Jade a little time to lure Tara upstairs, and even more time for the drugs to do their work and push the two of them past the point of no return. Waiting another thirty minutes should guarantee a perfectly orchestrated disaster.
When the time is right, Lana sets her glass down and shifts into her frantic mother persona. She practically sprints over to Deanna, her face a mask of breathless panic.
"Deanna! It's Evan—I don't know what's wrong with him, but he's having some sort of breakdown in one of the guest suites! He's screaming and throwing things!" Lana gasps, grabbing Deanna's arm. "He keeps yelling Tara's name. I'm terrified he's going to hurt himself. Please, can you come help me check on him?"
Deanna, who was just about to head upstairs to touch up her makeup anyway, frowns in concern. "Could it just be the alcohol? I didn't realize he cared about Tara that much."
Lana seizes the opening. "He drank way too much tonight. He was heartbroken after their fight earlier. The alcohol is just amplifying his emotions. He truly loves her, Deanna. Young people fight all the time, they just need to work it out."
"Alright, let's go. I need to rest my feet anyway," Deanna says, suspecting nothing. It is Jade's party, not hers, so she has no obligation to hover in the main ballroom.
As they head toward the staircase, they run into Jake and Alec. Lana immediately ropes the brothers into joining them.
Jake agrees instantly. This is their territory, and any scandal involving the Jewell family reflects poorly on them. It is best to handle whatever Evan is doing before it attracts attention.
