"Tara, what do I do?" Loretta paces nervously in Astra Media's executive suite. "The Dennis family knows it's me. What if they sue me for mimicking Jade's voice or accuse me of lip-syncing?"
Every employee at Astra Media practically worships Tara. To them, she is an invincible mastermind who can solve any crisis. Loretta desperately needs that reassurance right now.
Tara leans back in her chair, a slow, amused smile spreading across her face. "What are you afraid of? Mimicking a voice isn't illegal. And more importantly—you are the original."
While a lip-syncing scandal can destroy an artist's career, Tara knows perfectly well that Loretta's career is bulletproof. As for Jade's career? That's a different story.
"But what if they twist the narrative?" Loretta's hands shake. "When I ghost-sang for Jade, they made sure I never kept any proof. They erased every paper trail. If they publicly accuse me of being a copycat, people will believe them over me!"
She finally escaped the suffocating grip of Dennis Media. She finally has a taste of real success. If they drag her back into the mud now, Loretta doesn't know if she has the strength to survive it a second time.
"The original will always be the original," Tara says, her voice smooth and carrying an absolute, undeniable authority. "A fake can never outlast the truth. Liars live in fear of the spotlight because they know they can't survive the scrutiny."
She stands up and places a reassuring hand on Loretta's shoulder. "Just focus on your music. Let Astra handle the rest. We don't let our people get bullied."
