Nikolai has sent legal notices to Loretta and Astra Media on a whim, without bothering to learn the full story. Now that the lip-syncing scandal is out in the open, James is turning the tables and suing Dennis Media for defamation. James rarely makes a move, but when he does, he never loses. Add to that the fact that Dennis Media is entirely in the wrong, and this lawsuit is a guaranteed bloodbath. Even if it doesn't end in a massive settlement, the legal battle alone will heavily impact the Dennis Group. After all, they made such a high-profile spectacle of suing Tara and Loretta, so the entire internet is watching closely.
This isn't going to blow over easily. Most importantly, with a heavyweight like James stepping in, there is no chance of a quiet settlement. They can't fathom what methods Tara used to win the favor of a billionaire titan like Danny. If it weren't for Danny, James would never take on such a minor case for no reason.
"So, Jake, what do we do now?" Alec asks, pacing the room.
"Oh, now you ask me what to do? Weren't you just accusing me of not helping Jade and not comforting her?"
Perhaps the weight of the crisis is finally waking him up; Jake suddenly feels unprecedentedly clear-headed. "Don't forget, Jade was the one who first brought up the lip-syncing idea. She practically begged us to help her do it."
Jake doesn't want to waste another breath. He has a board of relentless directors waiting to devour him. Throwing those words over his shoulder, he turns on his heel and storms out, slamming the door behind him.
The more Jade thinks about it, the more indignant she feels. She stops dead in her tracks. She can't help but keep glancing back at the door, her anxiety growing stronger by the second. Did they discover her little schemes and ulterior motives?
Impossible! Something else must be wrong. She always has her brothers wrapped around her little finger. They couldn't possibly change their attitudes so easily. She bites her lip, tears welling in her eyes again. After a moment of hesitation, she decides to hide and observe their movements. She deliberately tucks herself into the corner at the end of the corridor, her eyes fixed on the door.
Before long, she sees Jake march out, his face thunderous. A spark of joy hits Jade. She assumes her oldest brother still cares and prepares to throw herself into his arms and act spoiled. But before she can even take a step, he strides directly toward the elevator without a single backward glance, showing zero intention of looking for her.
