The Scorned Heiress: No More Mercy novel Chapter 291

Nobody expects this little interlude. Since Jade keeps her mouth shut, everyone naturally places the blame on Jake. They all assume he is just taking his frustration out on Jade after getting chewed out by the Board of Directors.

"Is this really necessary?" Deanna asks, clearly torn. "Does Jade absolutely have to apologize publicly? Can't she just do it in private?"

"Exactly. A public apology is humiliating," Alec chimes in. "It's not like someone died or the company went bankrupt. Why make it a spectacle?"

Nikolai nods in agreement. "Tara is crossing the line. Because of her, Jake is taking heat from the shareholders. Can't she just let this go instead of being so vindictive?"

Following Deanna's lead, the two brothers pile on, subconsciously shifting all the blame onto Tara.

"Oh? Then why don't you call Tara and ask her yourself?" Jake scoffs.

Now that his own neck is on the line, his mind is crystal clear. He finally sees the glaring truth in front of him. This entire fiasco is entirely the fault of the Dennis family and Jade. Yet, out of pure habit, everyone is treating Tara as the scapegoat. If Tara hadn't been standing on the front lines to take the heat, they would probably all be united in tearing him apart right now.

"She already blocked me. I'm not calling her," Alec huffs indignantly.

"It doesn't matter. This is the only way forward," Jake says with finality, turning his stern gaze to Jade. "Jade, you're going to that press conference whether you like it or not. Consider it your way of finally doing something for the Dennis family."

His implication is glaringly obvious: They have pampered her like a princess for years. It is time she made a contribution.
