Mentioning Nathaniel leaves a bitter taste in Jovani's mouth. Just like Charles, she absolutely despises the man. With Charles's power and status, getting rid of Nathaniel shouldn't be that difficult. He's just a shareholder, not an executive decision-maker.
But Charles insists that Nathaniel has a unique talent for medicinal cultivation and farm management. Since he inherited his skills directly from Cian, he can't simply be kicked out. If they force Nathaniel out of the Dennis Group, or worse, allow a rival to poach him, their monopoly on the medicinal supply chain will collapse. Jovani silently curses Charles for being an idiot. If he had just bothered to learn the trade himself, they wouldn't be held hostage by someone else's expertise.
"Then just have someone take him out. It's not like you don't have the connections," Jade says, stating it as if it were the most obvious solution in the world.
She doesn't know exactly who her mother's backers are, but she has always known that the people pulling the strings behind the scenes are incredibly dangerous.
"It's not the right time," Jovani replies, clearly unwilling to reveal too much.
Her precious Jade has been sheltered for too long. She has no idea how to keep a secret. Over the years, she has taught her how to manipulate Deanna and her three sons, but only because they were easy targets. The Dennis family still has Tara and Eleanor to contend with, and neither of them are easily fooled. If she tells Jade too much, she risks her daughter slipping up and letting them piece the puzzle together. That would spell disaster.
Furthermore, Jovani has noticed a shift in Charles lately. The man she has controlled for years is no longer acting like the predictable pawn she thought he was. Though she can't quite put her finger on it, she senses that he is hiding far more than he lets on.
