Even if she flaunted her ties to the Dennis Group, a titan like the Calhoun family wouldn't feel threatened. Danny, of course, isn't about to confess the real reason: Garrison discovered his deep feelings for her. Realizing Tara is Danny's ultimate weakness, his uncle decided to strike.
"Whatever the reason, you need to be careful from now on. I'm assigning a security detail to watch over you in secret," Danny says firmly.
"That's not necessary. I can handle myself," she protests. The thought of being monitored twenty-four-seven makes her skin crawl.
"Don't worry. They are highly trained professionals. They won't interfere with your life or invade your privacy," he assures her, knowing exactly what she is worried about.
"Ugh, fine," she concedes. She knows him well enough by now; if she says no, he will just dispatch the bodyguards anyway.
"I just have a feeling this runs deeper. He has to be working with someone else to be this relentless," she muses. The sabotage was ruthless—a perfect stone to kill two birds. If they hadn't been incredibly lucky, they would both be dead. This was a calculated execution.
"I'll have my people investigate. Just stay on your guard," Danny replies. He cares far more about her safety than finding the culprit. If she starts digging around on her own, she might back the masterminds into a corner, pushing them to try something even more extreme. The thought of her facing another lethal trap without him there makes his blood run cold.
Over the next few days, a steady stream of visitors arrives at the hospital to check on Danny. Even Garrison makes an appearance, exchanging a few hollow, hypocritical pleasantries before leaving with a barely concealed scowl. Clearly, seeing his targets alive and well is a bitter pill to swallow.
