Every single time Charles expects her in his bed, Jovani manages to slip the drug into his drink. Standing over his unconscious body, her admiration for that person only deepens. There is absolutely nothing in this world that man cannot achieve, and no chemical compound he cannot perfectly synthesize.
Meanwhile, at the Jewell Estate.
"Mom, Jade's reputation is absolute garbage right now. Aside from being the favorite child in that house, she brings absolutely nothing to the table," Evan argues, pacing the length of the opulent living room. "Why don't we just find an excuse to break off the engagement? Tara is a million times better, and I heard she is already working at the Dennis Group!"
Evan knows exactly how ruthlessly pragmatic his mother is. If she expects him to sacrifice his freedom for a political marriage, the bride at least needs to be an asset to the Jewell family. He has never held that against her. It is just business. But Jade is an absolute liability now, and her sweet facade is cracking to reveal a deeply unpleasant personality.
On the flip side, Evan finds himself completely unable to stop thinking about Tara. Every time he sees her, she practically radiates a blinding, untouchable confidence that leaves him completely obsessed.
Back in the day, Lana had insisted on breaking Evan's engagement with Tara because she assumed Tara was nothing more than a pretty face who held no power in the Dennis family. Plus, after Tara had gone missing for years, the high society rumor mill had brutally questioned her purity. But now, anyone with a working pair of eyes can see that Tara is extraordinary. If they just swap the bride back to Tara, everyone wins.
"Are you out of your mind? Do you honestly think I don't know Tara is the superior choice?" Lana snaps, massaging her temples. "But Tara is entirely uncontrollable. She is currently at war with the Dennis family. If her own flesh and blood can't put her on a leash, what makes you think we can?"
She glares at him, utterly exasperated by his delusion that he can just swap fiancées like he is returning a pair of shoes.
