The Scorned Heiress: No More Mercy novel Chapter 382

Suffocating beneath the weight of his own embarrassment, Jake clenches his fists, fighting the urge to sprint out of the room and strangle Jade with his bare hands. He looks pleadingly at Eleanor and Kellen, desperate for them to act as mediators and convince Tara to forgive him.

But before he can even attempt to frame a delicate request, Tara cuts him off entirely.

"Grandma, I need a word with you in private," Tara says smoothly, turning her back on Jake.

Eleanor, who has navigated decades of cutthroat high society, instantly catches the underlying meaning. She glances at Kellen. "This boy is giving me a headache. Take him to the front living room and knock some sense into him. I want to spend some quality time with Tara."

"With pleasure," Kellen says. She stands up, grabs Jake unceremoniously by the back of his collar, and hauls him out of the room like a misbehaving toddler.

Jake is completely speechless. When did his life devolve into this?

"Mhm," Tara hums noncommittally, effortlessly shifting the conversation. "Grandma, I asked Aunt Kellen to take him away because I actually have a very specific question for you."

"Oh?" Eleanor blinks, her melancholy fading slightly. "What is it, dear?"

"Did my father have a first love before he married Deanna?"
