"If you are going to be stupid, at least do it quietly. You are embarrassing yourself," Jake says, looking at Nikolai with sheer disgust.

He can't believe Nikolai is still oblivious to how Jade is dragging him down. But Jake doesn't care to explain; some lessons have to be learned the hard way.

"How can you say that to me? Do I mean nothing to you?" Nikolai asks, his normally calm demeanor cracking. He feels cursed today. Everything is going wrong. He used to laugh when Jake and Alec complained about their sudden string of bad luck, assuming his own life was perfectly charmed. Now, he feels like the universe is actively punishing him.

"I can't fix stupid," Jake says coldly, gesturing for them to either leave or shut up.

Jake then turns his attention to Tara. The icy glare vanishes, replaced by a warm, unguarded softness that drastically alters his entire aura. "Go ahead and present. Ignore the dead weight."

His insult effectively slaps both Jade and Nikolai in the face, but neither dares to talk back to him.

Jade watches her, her face twisting with jealous rage. "Those are just theories too! Do you have any actual, practical experience?" she demands.

Tara lets out a cold, sharp laugh. "Of course I do. I managed a far more complex botanical project in the past. We ran into structural failures much worse than this. I will gladly demonstrate the practical application for you right now."

She knows Jade is desperately trying to incite doubt among the experts. The only way to permanently shut her down is a flawless, live demonstration.
