The Scorned Heiress: No More Mercy novel Chapter 416

Evan leaves the VIP lounge without a word, his expression thunderous.

"Ugh. With that kind of temper and attitude, he actually thinks he can win back Tara? In his dreams."

"I used to think Evan wasn't that bad, but now he's worse than dirt."

"Anyone who associates with a piece of work like Jade can't be worth much anyway."

Meanwhile, Danny has already led Tara out of the bar. As soon as she slips into the passenger seat of his car, he drops a bombshell with casual ease.

"Who do you think is better—me, or those escorts you just hired?"

"Huh?" Tara blinks, entirely caught off guard.

Hearing such a loaded question and seeing the dead-serious look in his eyes, she is genuinely bewildered. How is there even a comparison?

"Why would you ask that?"

"Because you'd rather go out and hire escorts for entertainment than come to me. Do you think I can't compete with them?"

Usually, Tara does whatever she wants and never bothers explaining herself to anyone. But right now, Danny looks so uncharacteristically pitiful and wronged that she doesn't know whether to laugh or cry. An inexplicable flutter stirs in her chest, like a feather brushing gently against her heartstrings.

Danny's mood instantly brightens. His handsome lips curl upward into a devastatingly attractive smile. It is the best flattery he has ever heard. Satisfied, he decides to let the topic drop.

"This rumor was almost certainly leaked by your dear sister," Danny says, shifting back to business. "The Dennis family and everyone in our circles will probably know about it soon. I'll handle it for you. I won't let this kind of scandal spread."

His offer surprises Tara. It seems Mr. Calhoun has an excellent radar for manipulative behavior. Without her even saying a word, he immediately pins the blame on Jade. In fact, Jade is probably the reason he showed up at the lounge in the first place.

"No need," Tara says. "A little tabloid gossip can't hurt me. It's actually the perfect opportunity to deflect the damage right back onto Jade."

Besides playing dumb to catch her prey, Tara's favorite tactic is using her enemies' momentum against them. She prefers to let their schemes backfire and blow up in their own faces. She is too busy to waste her energy brainstorming ways to deal with a fool like Jade. Since Jade is racking her brain to plot against her, Tara will simply take the trap Jade set and snap it shut on her instead.
