Though she stays quiet, her mind split between the road and her missing friend, Tara never drops her guard. She quickly realizes the ride is dragging on far longer than it should. She might not know the exact layout of these mountains, but her internal compass tells her they are veering completely off course. He isn't heading toward the village; he's driving deeper into the desolate wilderness.
"Excuse me, this isn't the right way. Please stop," she says, her tone conversational but firm.
Eric chuckles, clearly surprised that this seemingly clueless city girl caught onto his detour. "No can do, sweetheart. This is a terrible spot to pull over. Just sit tight. I'll get you where you need to go."
He thinks he has all the power. In the middle of nowhere, miles from civilization, he assumes she is utterly helpless.
Catching the sudden shift in his demeanor, Tara's expression turns icy. "And if I insist on getting out?"
"Well, if you're gonna be a brat about it, I guess we stop here." Dropping the grandfatherly act, Eric slams the brakes. He turns around, a predatory smirk plastered across his face as his eyes rake over her stunning features. "So, what are you gonna do now? Without me, you're never making it out of these woods alive. Once the sun goes down, this place crawls with snakes, bugs, and wild animals. You might as well just surrender."
He leans closer, his grin widening. "Just be a good girl and cooperate. Once you make me feel good, I promise I'll get you out of here safely. How about it?"
