The villagers would undoubtedly swarm the aircraft, treating them like a roadside zoo exhibit. The mere thought of that kind of spectacle sends a shudder down Tara's spine.

"Absolutely not," she insists, waving her hands. "Just go down to the front desk, grab your own room, and we'll suffer through one night here."

"Not a chance," Danny fires back seamlessly. "Unless I'm staying in this exact room with you."

He finally lays his ultimate agenda on the table.

"Why?" Tara blinks in genuine surprise. "There are plenty of empty rooms downstairs. If you're that offended by the size of the standard rooms, you can just take this suite and I'll switch." She knows he’s accustomed to penthouses and would naturally despise these cramped quarters.

"This has nothing to do with square footage," Danny says flatly. "Listen to the walls. You can hear exactly what kind of degenerates are staying on either side of you. This place is entirely unsafe for a woman to stay in by herself. If we are sleeping in this building tonight, I am staying in this room to keep watch. Otherwise, I am calling in the chopper."

His tone leaves absolutely zero room for negotiation. But as he watches her process his ultimatum, his rigid posture softens slightly. "Relax. I'm not going to try anything. We can stick to opposite sides of the mattress, or I can just take the floor."

Tara glances around the confined space. There is only one modest double bed and not a single sofa in sight. They would either have to share the mattress, or one of them would be sleeping on the hard linoleum.

She chews her bottom lip in hesitation. Deep down, she trusts his character implicitly. And logically, he isn't wrong. This motel is crawling with shady characters, and there is no guarantee that more assassins aren't prowling the perimeter. Plus, surrounded by aggressively passionate couples on all sides, having a fiercely protective man like Danny nearby undeniably grounds her.
