The Scorned Heiress: No More Mercy novel Chapter 528

Before Tara can reply, a cheerful, overly sweet voice cuts through the air.

"Tara! I didn't expect to see you here. How did you manage to get in? Did someone actually give you an invitation?"

The implication is glaringly obvious: Tara couldn't possibly belong here unless she latched onto someone important. Tara doesn't even need to turn around to recognize Jade. Her good mood instantly evaporates. She knew there was a high chance this idiot would show up. The National Scientific Symposium is an elite gathering, entirely different from standard celebrity parties or vapid socialite galas. Jade is obsessed with status; she definitely begged the Dennis family or Jovani to get her onto the guest list.

"It is absolutely none of your business how Tara got in," Danny snaps, stepping squarely between them. "But I am certainly curious about how you crossed the threshold. A nobody like you definitely didn't get an invitation. You must have hitched a ride like a parasite with the Dennis family."

He was in the middle of a very important conversation with the woman he loves, and this nuisance just had to interrupt.

Jade freezes. If Tara had insulted her, she could have proudly bragged about Jake and Nikolai bringing her in, thriving on trying to make Tara jealous. But facing the imposing, dark aura of Danny Calhoun is a different story. His gaze is predatory, his expression so venomous that she shrinks back, terrified he might order security to throw her out.

"I... I..." Jade stammers.

"You what?" Danny sneers. "You're incompetent, so you project your jealousy onto others. Tuck your tail between your legs and get out of our sight. Who gave you the nerve to speak to her like that?"

His face is thunderous. Normally, Danny wouldn't waste a single second engaging in petty drama. But the moment anyone targets Tara, the rules change entirely.
