Julianna, who usually maintains flawless control over her emotions, nearly suffocates on Katie's bizarre logic. Her complexion pales, and her breathing hitches. When did she ever indicate she was unhappy with the engagement? When did she ever suggest she didn't like Danny? And when did she ever ask to be matched with some random scientist? This is entirely Katie's own delusional projection!
Yet, with Katie framing it so perfectly, Julianna is completely trapped. If she denies it now, she will sound absolutely desperate to marry into the Calhoun family, essentially admitting she can't live without Danny. As a proud, high-society heiress, she would rather die than suffer that kind of humiliation.
Tara watches the entire exchange in quiet amusement. Are this mother and son serious? Can they really not see that Julianna looks ready to explode from sheer indignity? She is practically being crushed under the weight of her own pride. Tara isn't entirely sure if Katie is genuinely oblivious, but she knows for a fact that Danny is doing it on purpose. One look at Julianna's devastated eyes when she glances at him tells Tara everything she needs to know: the woman is deeply in love with him.
"Ah, Mrs. Calhoun, no, that's not it at all! You're totally missing the point, I—I—" Bonnie stammers, desperate to correct the older woman. But her usual sharp tongue fails her in her panic, leaving her stumbling over her words.
"Bonnie, that's enough," Julianna finally snaps, unable to bear it any longer. The situation has already derailed; speaking further will only make her look more pathetic.
"See, Bonnie? Julianna agrees with me," Katie says with a cheerful smile, easily twisting the moment to fit her narrative. She turns back to Julianna. "Don't worry, honey. I will definitely find someone who is a much better fit for you."
