The Scorned Heiress: No More Mercy novel Chapter 55

Chapter 55

After the initial deal, Tara calls with twenty thousand dollars, while the others confidently throw in fifty thousand or a hundred thousand.

When the betting circles back to Tara, she immediately folds again.

Everyone at the table stares at her in sheer confusion. What is going on? Is she taking caution to an absurd extreme? What is the point of playing like this? How are they supposed to win her money if she never plays a hand?

Luke finally loses his patience. “Come on, what kind of cards are you even getting? You’re playing so tight! Poker is about taking risks!”

The others nod in agreement, staring at her expectantly.

Tara innocently flips her hole cards over for the whole table to see. “Look. A King and an Ace They aren’t a pair, and they’re off-suit. It’s obviously a dead end, so I folded.”

She analyzes the hand so meticulously, sounding like she actually knows what she is talking

about.

The rest of the table is utterly speechless. She thinks Ace-King is a bad hand?

Now they are absolutely certain-Tara knows absolutely nothing about Texas Hold’em. She was definitely just acting tough earlier.

Their tension evaporates completely. Playing against a total beginner is a walk in the park. They have already figured out her strategy: she will only bet if she has a monstrously good hand. They can easily manipulate her.

The third round kicks off.

Alec is first to act. He peaks at his hole cards-a pair of Queens. Thrilled, he immediately pushes a stack of chips forward. “Raise, one hundred thousand.”

When it is Tara’s turn, she casually glances at her cards-a seven of diamonds and an eight of spades. Absolute garbage.

Yet, a slow smirk curls the corners of her lips. She slides a stack of chips into the center. “Call. And raise another two hundred thousand.”

Everyone freezes.

What kind of god-tier cards did she just get to drop that much money instantly?

Based on what they have seen so far, she would never bet heavily unless she was absolutely certain she had a winning hand.

Chapter 55

Luke immediately sits up straighter. He checks his cards and tosses in a hundred thousand to stay in. Samuel frowns at his hand and quickly folds.

A flicker of amusement dances in Danny’s eyes. His little doctor is finally getting serious.

The dealer reveals the first three community cards.

Tara barely looks at them before sliding more chips forward. “Raise, five hundred thousand.”

The table gasps. This is getting intense!

They are all dying to know what she is holding.

“Stop bluffing,” Alec sneers. “I call your five hundred thousand.”

Realizing things are getting out of control, Luke looks at his mediocre hand and smartly folds.

The dealer turns the next community card.

Tara doesn’t miss a beat. “Raise, one million.”

“Are you out of your mind?” Alec demands, his eyes wide. “Do you even know what you’re doing? Stop messing around!”
