Unfortunately for Jake, he is dead wrong again.
"I told you a long time ago, I am done with the Dennis family. We walk separate paths," Tara says, her gaze freezing over. "Don't provoke me, and I won't bother you."
Do these people genuinely think she was just throwing a temper tantrum when she cut them off?
"And as for the heir position at Dennis Group? If I want it, I'll take it myself. If I don't care for it, I certainly don't need you to hand it to me."
Her tone is breathtakingly arrogant, but she has every right to be. She has the absolute power to back it up.
Refusing to waste another second on him, Tara casually glances back down at her files. "Can you leave now? I'm busy."
The dismissal is absolute. She doesn't care how beautifully he spins his apologies; she has zero interest in hearing them.
Stripped of his pride and met with an impenetrable wall of ice, Jake's thick skin finally cracks. No matter how desperately he wants to reconcile, he cannot endure this level of humiliation any longer. He has never lowered himself to this extent in his entire life—not even for Lucinda, the woman he loved.
Gritting his teeth, Jake turns on his heel and marches out of her office in defeat.
Back in his own office, Jake's temper explodes. He violently sweeps everything off his desk, sending files, pens, and heavy glass paperweights crashing to the floor.
