Oblivious to the fact that she has already been crowned the future daughter-in-law, Tara takes one look at the kitchen disaster and offers a gentle suggestion. "Maybe we should just go out to eat?"
It is just lunch, after all. There is no need for all this chaos. There are plenty of great restaurants nearby where they can simply pay the bill and leave. It is so much easier.
Just as Tara speaks, Danny and Katie shoot a desperate look at Hunter. The butler immediately steps forward with perfect timing. "Mrs. Calhoun, Mr. Calhoun, wonderful news. Wilson just reported that he is feeling much better and is already prepping lunch in the main kitchen."
"Really? That is fantastic! We do not need to go out after all," Katie smoothly transitions, flashing a bright smile. She grabs Tara's hand and leads her toward the courtyard. "Tara, let us go sit outside for a bit. Our head chef's food is truly incredible, trust me."
"Alright," Tara agrees. What else can she say? Since the hosts insist, she has no reason to object, though she cannot help but feel the timing of the chef's miraculous recovery is awfully convenient.
Once they are out of earshot, Katie glares at her son. "You idiot! How did you not inherit your father's culinary skills? You nearly burned the house down! Your father won my heart specifically because he knew his way around a kitchen."
It is a universal truth that the quickest way to a woman's heart is through her stomach. Clearly, her son has failed spectacularly. It is downright tragic. She scolds him with absolute seriousness.
Danny remains utterly silent. This is the first time he has ever felt this defeated, especially in front of the woman he is in love with. Cooking looks so simple, yet the actual execution is maddeningly difficult. Too embarrassed to speak or even look at Tara, he slumps quietly in the courtyard chair, staring off into the distance.
