The Scorned Heiress: No More Mercy novel Chapter 599

Back at the Sinclair estate, Lindsay returns from her trip to the temple, eager to shower her precious grandson with love. But the moment she walks into the parlor, her heart drops. Little Gavin looks like he has shrunk.

"Gavin, darling, what happened to you? Why have you lost so much weight?" Lindsay's eyes instantly well with tears. Her grandson has always been an exquisitely beautiful child, and it took so much effort to finally get him looking healthy. In just a few short days, he has grown terrifyingly thin and utterly lifeless. Children are terrible at hiding their pain, and he looks profoundly devastated.

Trembling, Lindsay reaches out and gently cups his pale cheek. "Tell Grandma, did someone hurt you? Are you sick?"

Gavin slowly lifts his head, his large, glassy eyes meeting hers. He gives a tiny shake of his head.

Lindsay's anxiety spikes. She grips his small hands tightly. "Don't be afraid, sweetheart. Tell Grandma everything. I'll protect you." This is absolutely not a "nothing is wrong" situation. While it's true that Gavin's severe autism keeps him isolated, he has never looked this emotionally shattered.

His grandmother's frantic worry makes Gavin feel a pang of guilt. He has always been deeply unhappy, but he usually manages to hide it. Lately, however, the relentless mental and physical abuse from Julianna has left him feeling like he is drowning. He is too young to fully understand the concept of despair, but he clings fiercely to the pretty lady's promise. Tara told him not to let the bad people break him. She told him to survive so he could fight back one day. Due to his autism, once Gavin latches onto a truth, it becomes his entire world. And right now, all he wants is to see Tara again.

At the banquet, everyone promised she would come visit him. He remembered that promise every single day. So why haven't they brought her here?
