Before Danny even gets a chance to spend a few more moments with the woman who has suddenly become the darling of the family, Katie whisks Tara away to the sprawling outdoor gardens. Little Gavin trails right behind them, sticking close to Tara like a tiny, silent guardian. Though the boy rarely speaks, he listens intently to the banter between Tara and Katie, his eyes wide with quiet curiosity.
"Tara, look at these medicinal herbs. What do you think?" Katie asks, gesturing proudly to a lush garden bed. "I recently cross-bred a new variety. It does wonders for pediatric asthma and respiratory issues."
True to her background in pharmaceutical research, Katie instantly dives into complex medical jargon. Danny stands a few steps back, completely out of his depth. When it comes to medicine, he has absolutely zero say between these two brilliant minds.
"This is incredibly impressive," Tara says, her eyes lighting up as she inspects the plants. "Grafting at this level requires immense precision. Even if it's successful, mass-producing it is a nightmare. Getting fifty thriving plants is no small feat, Mrs. Calhoun."
She can easily tell that every single stalk is perfectly nourished.
Katie chuckles warmly. "You know it. Once this batch is fully matured and harvested, I'm hoping we can figure out a way to scale up production."
"It'll be a challenge, but the concept is brilliant," Tara agrees.
Just then, Gavin, who has been quietly observing the soil, points a small finger and murmurs, "Birdies."
Katie gasps in absolute delight. "Oh, would you look at that! It's his first day here and he's already speaking. And what a sweet little voice!"
When Lindsay dropped the boy off earlier, she had been a bundle of nerves, constantly calling to fret over whether Gavin would adapt to the new environment. Yet here he is, relaxed, playing, and actually using his voice.
"Are these chicks specifically raised to eat the pests off the medicinal plants?" Tara asks, easily connecting the dots. A mischievous glint flashes in her eyes as she adds, "You know, once they're plump enough, they'd make an incredibly nourishing herb-infused chicken soup."
