"It's not exclusively for rare medicinal herbs, just a variety of things, and it happens to include a few you might want." Katie quickly hooks her arm through Tara's, seemingly worried she might refuse. "Just come with me. Danny has a business dinner tomorrow and can't make it, and Catherine already made plans with her friends."
"You see, I'm always at the research institute. I barely have a social life or any friends. Please accompany me, won't you?"
Standing nearby, Catherine rolls her eyes. When did she ever say she has plans with friends? She never said that! Is her daughter-in-law rejecting her and refusing to bring her along? Hmph. It's just an auction. Big deal. If she can't go, so be it.
"Alright, sounds good," Tara agrees with a nod. She doesn't have any pressing matters to attend to lately, so checking out the rare herbs isn't a bad idea.
"If you see anything you like, bid on it without hesitation. I'll have my assistant settle the bill."
Danny's voice drips with the classic, domineering generosity of a wealthy CEO. She is practically radiating money.
"Oh, that's perfect! With my eldest son footing the bill, we can bid to our hearts' content," Katie adds with a beaming smile, exchanging a conspiratorial glance with her son.
It seems the two of them have already orchestrated this. Either way, Katie is genuinely thrilled. She refuses to spend a single dime from her own private stash. If her son is paying, why not?
