Alec is genuinely shocked to see Tara. Doesn't his sister hate places like this? Or maybe she just couldn't afford to come before, and now she can?
"What, does your family own the place? Am I not allowed to be here?" Tara replies coolly. Her mood instantly sours at the sight of the two people she despises most.
"Watch your attitude! I just asked a simple question. There's no need to throw a tantrum," Alec snaps, instantly irritated. This is exactly what he hates about her—she is always so cold and defensive. Why can't she be sweet and docile like Jade?
"Tara, Alec is just asking because he cares about you. Please don't be so hostile toward him," Jade interjects smoothly, instinctively sliding into her role of playing the victim and driving a wedge between them.
"Oh, then he can focus all his 'care' on you."
"Tara!" Alec fumes.
"What's going on here? Tara was having a lovely time until you two showed up and ruined the mood. Don't flatter yourselves," Katie interrupts. She doesn't know the full history, but she knows Tara's relationship with the Dennis family is strained. Seeing this supposed brother act like a jerk makes the reason painfully obvious. Tara is wonderful to be around, so Katie immediately concludes that these two are the problem.
"Hmph. Let's go, Tara. Ignore them. Catherine and Danny made it perfectly clear today: whatever you want, bid on it without hesitation," Katie says loudly, leading Tara away to the absolute best VIP seats in the center of the hall, completely dismissing the Dennis siblings. Katie can be incredibly warm and approachable, but to those she dislikes, she is fiercely arrogant and domineering. She doesn't give them a second glance.
