The scandal is impossible to hide from Eleanor and Kellen. Both women are thoroughly appalled. Eleanor, in particular, immediately senses a darker conspiracy at play.
"That Jovani woman actually came back? I always knew she was poison the moment she started making eyes at Charles all those years ago," Eleanor sneers, striking her cane against the floor. "Her criminal of a father is rotting in a prison cell, and the apple clearly didn't fall far from the tree. The amount of calculating deceit it takes to hide this for over twenty years is terrifying."
"But with Jade officially being Charles's daughter, things are going to get incredibly messy," Kellen sighs, rubbing her temples.
Dealing with Jade was exhausting enough when she was just an adopted ward; the brothers protected her like she was made of spun glass. Now that she holds the Dennis bloodline, getting rid of her permanently will be infinitely harder. Kellen aches for Deanna. Discovering that the daughter she raised and loved with all her heart is actually the spawn of her husband and his mistress is a cruelty worse than any betrayal Kellen herself endured during her own toxic marriage. It is enough to drive any woman to the brink of death.
"I don't care if she shares Charles's blood. I will never acknowledge a girl born rotten to the core!" Eleanor declares fiercely. "If it weren't for her, my darling Tara wouldn't have suffered so much. I almost let that little viper pull the wool over my eyes too, but thank God I woke up. Now, my heart only breaks for Tara."
Whenever Jade is brought up, the older women seethe with anger. Knowing she is Jovani's daughter only deepens their disgust. But given Eleanor's advanced age, she has no energy to micromanage the chaos. She simply instructs Kellen to visit Deanna frequently and try to pull her out of her dark headspace.
