Jade lifts her chin, drawing confidence from the absolute certainty of her bloodline. In the past, when she believed she was merely an orphaned ward, she had walked on eggshells, constantly playing the perfect, submissive daughter. But now that her identity as Charles's biological child has been 'exposed,' she feels untouchable.
She refuses to believe a billionaire patriarch would truly disown his own flesh and blood. If he were capable of that, her mother Jovani wouldn't have been able to secretly control him for all these years. Armed with this arrogance, she stands her ground.
But Charles's next words hit her like a freight train.
"Even if you begged on your knees to be my illegitimate daughter, I wouldn't accept trash like you. You really overestimate your worth," Charles says, his voice dangerously quiet but echoing clearly in the stunned silence of the hallway. "Let me make this perfectly clear to everyone here: I only have one daughter, and her name is Tara. You are absolutely nothing to me."
The entire corridor freezes.
Jade stares at him, her reality violently unraveling. "Are you... are you refusing to acknowledge me just to save face?"
It makes no sense. When she was just his 'adopted' daughter, he treated her like a princess. Now that the truth of his affair with Jovani is out, he looks at her like she's a disease. Is he really abandoning her just to protect his pristine corporate reputation?
Before she can spiral further into her delusions, Charles violently hurls a heavy manila folder directly into her face.
"Ah!" Jade shrieks, stumbling back as the sharp edge of the folder clips her cheek, scattering documents across the pristine hospital floor.
"There is your proof," Charles snarls, completely abandoning any remaining pretense. "We have zero relation. So stop standing in my hospital, playing the victim, and trying to claim a family that isn't yours!"
Charles is entirely done playing Jovani's twisted game. He is burning the entire board down.
Trembling, Jade drops to her knees and scrambles to gather the papers. As her eyes scan the bold, black text, the blood drains from her face.
