Accepting the shares was just the fastest, most convenient way to slap the mother and daughter in the face on the spot. That's why Tara didn't reject the transfer earlier.
"No need! We gave them to you, they're yours. Don't transfer them back," Jake immediately blurts out.
"Yeah, exactly! We don't lack that little bit of... no, no, I don't mean it like that. I just mean we're glad we could help," Alec stammers.
"That's right. We're family. When a brother gives his sister a gift, she doesn't have to give it back. We feel much better with you running the company," Nikolai adds hurriedly, terrified she might misunderstand.
Deanna sighs in relief, glad her sons have finally wised up and realized how to treat their real sister. She hasn't fully recovered from the grief of losing her husband, dragging through her days like a walking corpse. But she knows she can't go on like this. She still has her children to watch over, even if they don't need her anymore. She wants to help however she can. Most importantly, she refuses to let those vile women walk all over them! She forced herself to stand tall today, refusing to lose momentum in front of the enemy.
Seeing their earnest faces, Tara doesn't know how to respond. She is so used to their constant hostility that this complete one-hundred-and-eighty-degree shift feels completely jarring.
The past can't just be wiped away like dust on a table. A shattered mirror never perfectly reflects again.
Her father's situation was different. The thought of Charles, and how much he endured in secret while she knew nothing, makes her chest ache. She simply cannot treat them the way she treated her father. But for his sake, she holds back any harsh words.
