The Scorned Heiress: No More Mercy novel Chapter 767

"I didn't expect things to turn out this way either. You and Jade know the Dennis family inside out. How could you not predict their moves?" Gregory snaps, his own frustration bubbling over into blame. He genuinely believed that with his grip on the Dennis Group's presidency secured, the empire would soon fall right into their laps. He never imagined their master plan would collapse yet again.

"I know them too well! That's exactly why I was so certain they'd spend the rest of their lives tearing each other apart. They were never supposed to reconcile," Jovani fires back, visibly agitated. "I have no idea where things went wrong. And Tara—her relationship with Charles was already ice cold. Why is she suddenly acting like she cares so deeply about her dead father?"

Jovani paces in frustration. She can't wrap her head around it. In the past, that little bitch Tara kept an emotional distance from everyone in the Dennis family. Even if the brothers discovered Jade's true colors and cut ties with her, they shouldn't have been able to repair their bond with Tara this quickly. And with Charles dead, why is Tara suddenly showing so much devotion? Did Charles do something before he died that they don't know about?

"Maybe Tara used some kind of trick to manipulate Charles and the brothers into a truce, just so she could seize total control of the Dennis assets," Gregory theorizes.

"Impossible. That wretched girl isn't that simple," Jovani immediately shuts down the idea. Gregory might not understand the intricate dynamics of the Dennis family, but she does. Tara wouldn't stoop to cheap tricks just for money. Even if she wanted the fortune, she wouldn't do it this way. There has to be a missing piece to the puzzle. The uncertainty makes Jovani's internal alarm bells ring deafeningly loud.

"Forget it. What's done is done. We need to figure out a way to reclaim the Dennis Group. We need massive amounts of capital to keep the lab running."

The clandestine laboratory backing them requires astronomical funding to sustain its massive experimental trials. The man pulling the strings has given Gregory strict orders to secure more cash immediately. He can't drain too much from the Sinclair family's accounts, or the Sinclair matriarch will notice. He's also terrified that moving too much money will leave a paper trail and raise suspicions. The Dennis Group is the perfect target. Not only does it have a high cash flow, but their focus on botanical pharmaceuticals aligns perfectly with the lab's practical needs.

"Every move we make right now is being blocked by that bitch Tara. And if the Dennis family actually unites, they'll be even harder to take down," Gregory complains, a dark scowl on his face. "This is why you shouldn't have exposed yourself so hastily. Jade had the Dennis family eating out of the palm of her hand, and you had Charles completely under your control."

Hearing this, Jovani's frustration morphs into tearful grievance. "Gregory, how can you blame me for this?" she sobs, pulling out the victim card. "Jade's status in that house was already plummeting. Those brothers were slipping out of our control. And Charles? He knew everything! He was secretly running tests behind our backs! Do you have any idea how agonizing it was for me to stay glued to his side? It took everything I had to stay faithful to you!"
