Jade finally realizes that her terrible acting isn't the problem. She has just been blindly oblivious to the truth.
"She already looks like a train wreck, so why bother beating her up? We'd be better off just taking a bat to her," Nikolai says flatly.
"No way. Throwing our lives away and risking jail time over a piece of trash just isn't worth it," Alec replies.
"Good point. Even a stray dog wouldn't give her the time of day. We shouldn't waste our energy. Let someone else take out the garbage." Nikolai shrugs. Someone as vile as her has to have made plenty of enemies. Karma will catch up to her eventually.
"Nikolai, how can you insult dogs like that? Dogs are infinitely more valuable than her!" Alec corrects him with deadpan seriousness.
The two brothers bounce off each other effortlessly, maintaining a perfectly grave, thoughtful facade. Anyone with half a brain can see they are doing this on purpose. They are intentionally spewing these vicious insults just to humiliate her.
Jade's face flushes a deep, furious crimson. "Are you two out of your minds? Is it really necessary to throw away all your gentlemanly decency just to be sarcastic and petty? You're taking this way too far!"
It finally hits her. These two insufferable men will never treat her the way they used to. Just like Jake, they are past the point of no return. They have no soft spots left for her, no lingering affection she can manipulate. Knowing that playing the victim is useless, Jade drops the act completely.
