She is of Sinclair blood, how dare they just cast her aside like this!
Jade's voice trembles slightly. She has played out countless scenarios in her head. She assumed the old woman would dote on her just like she does with Gavin, feeling heartbroken that her own flesh and blood had suffered out in the world, and would bend over backwards to make it up to her. Or, at the very least, she expected a period of shock and hesitation, which would be a normal human reaction. She never anticipated being shut out so decisively, without a single sliver of room for negotiation.
"My mother... she suffered so much for Dad. I grew up without him by my side. Now that we finally have the chance to reunite with our family, how can you... how can you say that?" She tries to use her mother's sacrifices and her own pitiful upbringing to move the old lady. Her eyes redden, and she looks like she is on the verge of tears. Anyone else might actually feel bad for her.
But Lindsay just sits there, completely unmoved, as if Jade's tragic backstory has absolutely nothing to do with her.
"Suffered?" Lindsay scoffs, a hint of mockery lacing her tone. "She chose that path herself. Gregory was engaged to be married back then. Since she dared to do something so shameless, she should have known the consequences. As for you," she levels a piercing glare at Jade, "you might be Gregory's daughter, but not just anyone can walk through the doors of the Sinclair family. We cannot afford such a humiliation, and we certainly have no room for someone with crooked intentions."
