"What about Tara?" Jade asks, desperation overriding her pride. "Isn't her medical skill supposed to be incredible? When Lana's face was ruined and all those top doctors were helpless, Tara was the one who cured her."
Panic has completely stripped Jade of her usual arrogance, pushing her to acknowledge her worst enemy's talent. But the moment the words leave her mouth, Jovani slaps her again, the sharp crack echoing through the room.
"Are you out of your mind? Have you lost the ability to think?" Jovani seethes, her chest heaving with fury. "Did you forget who Tara is? We've tried to destroy each other time and time again. We are mortal enemies! Why would she ever lift a finger to help me?"
Jovani had, of course, considered going to Tara. There was even a fleeting moment when she thought the biological connection between them might grant her some leverage. But reality had crushed that delusion immediately. Tara suspects Jovani of murdering Charles. She would never help her, and if she did, the price would be unimaginably agonizing.
"I know she's our enemy," Jade argues, ignoring the stinging pain in her cheek. "But if she can cure you, you can just swallow your pride and pretend to submit to her for now! Once your face is healed, we can stab her in the back!"
Jade's philosophy is simple: do whatever it takes to survive. If they need Tara's skills, Jovani just needs to bow her head, endure the humiliation, and agree to whatever outrageous demands Tara makes. Once her face is flawless again, she can win Gregory back, secure their place in the Sinclair family, and then utterly destroy Tara. The ultimate goal is returning to the Sinclair dynasty, and Jade fully believes her mother should suffer a little indignity to make it happen.
