Jovani contemplates going live on social media after her endless tearful pleas and legal threats fail to make a dent. A public smear campaign against that woman could tank the Dennis Group's stock—the perfect revenge. But she catches a glimpse of her terrifying reflection. The side effects from her time as a human test subject are ravaging her body, multiplying her wrinkles by the day. Her skin sags heavily, her complexion dull and lifeless, and her eyes bulge out of her skull. She doesn't just look like an eighty-year-old woman; the rapid deterioration has caused all her natural teeth to rot and fall out. Even implants are impossible due to her shrinking gums, leaving her entirely dependent on a set of cheap dentures. Sometimes, when she gets too agitated or chews too hard, the entire row of fake teeth clatters right out of her mouth. The grotesque sight nearly sent her maid running in terror, prompting the girl to quit on the spot. How can she possibly show her face on a livestream looking like this? Even if playing the victim could garner sympathy, her vanity refuses to let her endure such public humiliation. She is losing her mind.
Desperate, she has no choice but to turn to Gregory. He is her absolute last resort. Surely, he wouldn't abandon the mother of his child. Yet, she calls him relentlessly, only to be met with endless ringing or immediate rejections. When he finally does pick up, it is nothing but a string of half-hearted excuses. Jovani clutches her phone, her knuckles turning white from the strain. The device grows hot against her palm as the cold, mechanical dial tone mocks her, followed by his callous brush-offs.
"I'm swamped right now," he snaps over the line. "Julianna is in trouble, and I can't step away. We'll talk after I sort out the Sinclair family's mess. Besides, things are tense right now. It's not safe for me to show my face. Figure something out yourself for the time being."
His heartless words slice through her already fragile sanity. It is always the same excuse! The Sinclair family always comes first. He said the exact same thing when his wife was on her deathbed, and again when the Sinclair matriarch fell severely ill. Now, even after losing their biological daughter—the supposed fruit of their love—he acts entirely unfazed. He just tosses her and this nightmare aside like garbage.
Why should she suffer alone? She sacrificed everything for him, even offering up her own body for those godforsaken medical trials. Now she is left as a monstrous shell of a woman, while he lives comfortably, completely detached from her misery. A suffocating wave of despair, rage, and bitter resentment crashes over her, threatening to tear her apart. With a feral scream, she hurls her phone against the floor. She wants nothing more than to march over there and rip him to shreds, but her failing body betrays her. The simple act of smashing the phone and screaming leaves her completely drained. She collapses into a chair, gasping for air like a frail old woman. The remaining maid cowers by the door, too terrified to even breathe.
Jovani slowly lifts her head. Her wrinkled, toothless face looks utterly demonic in the dim light. "Gregory," she rasps, her voice grinding like coarse sandpaper. "Do you really think you can hide from me? She was your daughter, too! If you dare abandon me now, I'll drag you straight to hell with me!"
Her sunken eyes burn with a manic, unyielding resolve, ready to burn everything to the ground if it means taking him down with her.
