The bond between us shakes violently.
I can feel it.

It is like a rope stretched to its limit, threatening to snap inside my chest. The pain runs through my body, but this time I do not back away. I do not move my hand. I do not stop.
Bastian lowers his head and places one hand against the floor as he tries to catch his breath. His shoulders tremble, and his fingers dig into the stone.
And this time, I am the one who laughs.
A low, bitter laugh that I barely recognize as my own.
“I can rip your mark off and make you suffer the same way you are making me suffer, Bastian.”
I slowly pull my hand away from my neck. The blood continues to run down my skin, but the wounds are already beginning
to close.
“I told you I would make you regret it. Do not play with me, because if you decide to bring your old self back, I am going to show you my new self.”
Bastian slowly raises his head. His eyes meet mine, but I do not stay to find out what he plans to do.
I turn around and walk toward the bathroom. I feel his gaze fixed on my back with every step, but I do not turn around. When I enter, I close the door and lock it.
I lean against the wood for the second time tonight and let out a long sigh. My chest rises and falls with difficulty as I close my eyes. Little by little, the pain in my shoulders and neck disappears. The wounds finish closing, and the blood that had begun to dry on my skin remains as the only physical reminder of what just happened.
I open my eyes and look at my reflection in the mirror.
My hair is disheveled, my clothes are stained with blood, and my eyes are still wet from tears. I do not look like a queen. I do not feel like one either.
But for the first time all night, I feel like myself again.
I am in control of my life, not him.
I run my fingers over my neck, where the skin is already completely healed.
And if Zharzel is right… if our relationship still has a chance, I will fight. For our family. For our daughter. For us.
I swallow and slowly lower my gaze toward my hands.
But if it does not, I will leave.
The decision settles inside me with a clarity I can no longer ignore.
Far away.
A few hours later, when the castle has fallen into the silence of the early morning, I carry Oana in my arms and leave the bedroom. The little girl sleeps deeply against my chest, wrapped in her pink blanket, with one of her tiny hands sticking out from the edge of the fabric.

I walk slowly so I do not wake her and carefully close the door behind me. The corridor is almost completely dark; only a few lamps remain lit at intervals, casting weak circles of light across the stone walls and leaving the rest of the hallway
vered in shadows.
There are no guards in sight. Not even the three warriors who normally guard the hallway outside my bedroom are there. I stop for a few seconds and sharpen my senses, searching for any movement, a murmur, or the sound of approaching footsteps, but I find nothing. The silence is absolute, and that absence creates an uncomfortable feeling in my stomach/1 adjust Oana against my chest and begin walking.
I go down the stairs leading toward the rooms designated for the security staff, and as I continue, the air becomes colder. I had never gone down to this part of the castle, and I do not know the place, so I let my sense of smell do the work for me,
I search for a familiar scent among all those trapped in the corridors during the sleeping hours. It takes me a few minutes to find it, but when I finally recognize Jared’s scent, I follow the trail until I stop in front of a wooden door
I look at Oana and check that she is still asleep, her cheek resting against my chest and her peaceful breathing barely moving the blanket covering her. I raise one hand and gently knock on the wood, trying not to make too much noise.
