The Secret Heirs of the Lycan King (Bella and scott) novel Chapter 158

Julie

When Lucere heard the snarls in the forest, she thought at first that they belonged to wolves from our pack. She immediately got up, feeling irritated at the disturbance.

But then the smell reached us. It was something like smoke and rot. My hackles rose as every instinct screamed. These were not our wolves. These were rogues.

She rose to her feet at once, muscles tightening, heart racing. Before she could turn fully, she felt Noir right behind us. He was there like a wall, placing himself between her and whatever was coming as if protecting us was the most natural thing to do.

From the shadows on our left, two gray wolves stepped out slowly. Their eyes were wild, their bodies lean and scarred, and their fur looked rough and dirty. Noir let out a loud snarl that shook the trees around us. The sound was full of warning and anger. Lucere stepped closer to him. She also snarled, her teeth bared, daring the rogues to try.

Noir nudged her with his shoulder, pushing her slightly backward, telling her to stay behind him. She ignored it. She would not leave him alone in front of danger. Frustrated, Noir turned back at the rogues and dipped his head, baring his fangs. His body was stiff, his tail raised, and his eyes burned with threat.

The rogues snarled back, circling us, knowing that they had the Alpha and the Luna of the pack in front of them. Killing us would destabilize the pack.

One of them lunged at Lucere without warning. Noir jumped in front of her at once. His body slammed into the rogue, knocking him aside. The second rogue went for Noir’s side, trying to bite into his leg. Lucere leaped forward and hit that rogue from the side, her sudden attack throwing him off balance

Noir and the first rogue rolled across the ground, growling and biting. The rogue tried to sink his teeth into Noir’s neck, but Noir twisted and caught the rogue’s ear in his jaws, tearing hard. The rogue howled and tried to pull away, but Noir did not let go. He shook his head and flung the rogue against a tree trunk. The impact made a dull sound, but the rogue still tried to

stand.

At the same time, Lucere fought the second rogue. He snapped at her face, but she ducked and bit into his shoulder. He screamed and tried to claw at her, but she kept her grip and pushed him down. He struggled under her, his legs kicking wildly. She growled and pressed her weight on him, her paws digging into his chest. He tried to bite her again, but she moved faster and caught his throat with her teeth.

Noir lunged again at the rogue he had thrown aside and sank his fangs into his neck. The rogue went still. Noir turned back just in time to see Lucere holding the second rogue down, her fangs already in his throat. Blood soaked into the leaves beneath them. The rogue’s body twitched once and then stopped.

For a moment, there was only the sound of our breathing and the rustle of the trees.

A moment later, pack wolves burst into the clearing. Several wolves came running, their eyes wide when they took in the scene. Two dead rogues lay on the ground. Noir lifted his head and looked at them. Then he picked up the dead rogue beneath him by his jaw, dragged him to her, and dropped it like an offering on her feet.

She stood over the one she had killed, her fangs still at his throat She was panting hard, her chest rising and falling as she glared down at what she had killed.

He nudged her gently, telling her to let go. When she didn’t, he touched his nose to her flank. That simple touch calmed her. She pulled her fangs free and stepped back.

The patrol wolves stared at her in shock. None of them had expected her to fight like that. Slowly, one by one, they lowered their heads in respect. Lucere lifted her chin and walked forward beside Noir. Together, they walked out of the forest, the patrol following behind them in silence.

When we reached the tree line where the pack land began, Lucere suddenly broke away. She ran toward my apartment without looking back. The moment we were inside, she gave me my skin, and I rushed into the bathroom to take a bath.

My hands shook as I turned on the hot water. I stood under it, trying to calm my racing thoughts. What the hell did I just do? Goddess, this was so embarrassing.

Images from the forest kept coming back to me. The way Lucere had presented to him. It was absolutely horrifying. My face grew hot with embarrassment. I pressed my hands to my cheeks and scolded Lucere inside my head. You had no control and no sense. You had acted like you belonged to him! Like do you have no shame?

Lucere only stretched inside me, not bothered at all. She said canly, What shame? I had seen our mate for the first time in my wolf form. What did you expect? You had kept me away from him for years. I am not made of stone.

I clenched my jaw and leaned against the wall. How was I supposed to face Troy now? I had promised myself I would stay away from him. I had told myself I would not look at him or speak to him unless I had to. But my wolf had done the opposite of what I wanted. She was eager to have sex with him despite the differences we had in our human forms. How could my wolf betray me like that?

I dried myself and wrapped a towel around my body. As I stepped into my room, there was a knock on the door. My heart jumped. It was too late for visitors. I wondered if it was an emergency from the hospital.
